Hand with contact lens on finger

Contact lenses are a great alternative to vision correction without the need to wear specs all the time. They really can make a difference to your life and can be used daily, socially or even just occasionally.

If you want to give contact lenses a go then make an appointment for a CONTACT LENS TRIAL. Our optometrists will discuss the options available and make recommendations based on your visual requirements, working environment and lifestyle.

Types of Lenses

Daily Disposable

As the name suggests these lenses are designed only to be worn once then discarded. They are very convenient as you never have to clean them, just throw them away. They are very comfortable and are often the best choice if you’ve never worn lenses before, allowing your eye to get used to them.

Fortnightly/Monthly Lenses

These lenses are worn on a daily basis, taking them out every night and cleaning and storing them, that are replaced on a fortnightly or monthly basis.

Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses

If you would rather not replace your lenses so regularly then rigid gas permeable lenses might be the answer for you. These are sometimes preferred because of the curvature of your eye. They are slightly more difficult to adapt to initially but you soon get used to them. They are not so good for occasional use, and may be advised when people want to wear lenses every day.

These are removed and cleaned every night.

Coloured Lenses

There are a range of coloured contact lenses available.

Samples come with no prescription so you can choose which colour you would like.

The prescription range is a lot smaller so these are not available for everyone.

Contact Lens Fit

If you’ve never worn contact lenses before you need to make a CONTACT LENS FIT appointment.

This is because the tests are different- and outwith the NHS test.

We would discuss what you want to wear lenses for- is it every day or just socially? If you’re older do you want multi-focal contact lenses? Do you want soft or rigid gas permeable lenses?

Once we’ve done this and examined your eyes we will suggest what type of lens would be best for you and order in trials.

We will show you how to handle them and build up your wearing.

And we will have a few checks after the initial appointment to ensure optimum fit and vision.

The cost of a contact lens fit is £25 for new wearers and £15 for previous wearers.
